Our Mom's Maroon Lipstick is trending!

I have always had a secret fascination for the color Maroon (or let's call it by its new sophisticated name - Burgundy or Deep Red Berry). It has typically adorned the lips of our moms, and most of us have steered clear of it with the very diplomatic "It is a great color for Indian skin tones, but it makes me look older!" We instead want the pinks, the peaches, the nudes.

But I have always *secretly* loved this color. I have lipsticks that easily cross over into goth category. I generally use them as a lip tint.

Well, guess what, it is the hottest lip color right now! Maroon! And fashionistas aren't waiting for the autumn to dig it out. They are wearing it right now, in the middle of summer!

Reader Query: Long Lasting Lipstick

Maria wanted to know:

Hey! Can you please suggest lipsticks that stay all day long, except MAC?

Hey Maria,

Y U No want MAC?

Haha, I'm kidding. I can understand that MAC can be expensive and not easily available at times. So I'll keep this list limited to easily available drugstore products.

There are three important things that impact how long a lipstick will last: Method of Application, the color itself and finally your skin type.

Method of Application:

First of all, I don't think there are any lipsticks that last all day long, unless you are willing to put in a bit of effort into applying them properly. So just swipe & head out of the door will not work. Here's how I apply my lipsticks when I want them to last longer (ps: I learnt a bit of this from the great Lisa Eldridge):

The Chanel Rip Off!

I was just doing some net browsing today, having come back with a shopping spree from MAC with a friend.
Nope, I didn't get anything. But my friend is getting married so she bought quite a few things from MAC. I was tempted too, but somehow today was one of my saner days and I just got Maybelline lip balm in color bloom - Peach as my first tube is over. (I know! I need to review so many things!) and an Max Factor mascara as my earlier one is due to expire soon.
Anyways, I was doing TPgiri online when I came across this video by a UK based Makeup Artist. I'm sorry I don't know what his real name is, I just know him as Goss.
So now it seems that Chanel is ripping off the Britishers, by selling much lesser quantities for the same price as when compared to US.
The price (after conversion) and colors are both same in US & UK, but in US their eyeshadow palettes have 6 gms total quantity (for 58$) & in UK just 1.2 gms total quanitity (for 37 Pounds).
It's the sa…

ATB Beauty Notes: Pore Strips

This is the ultimate quick - fix in the skincare world. Everything else, needs a few days to show results, or at least a day's time. But not the pore strip. All it takes is a quick 15 minutes. Oh, the satisfaction that you get, when you peel off a nose blackhead strip and examine the gunky blackheads that have come off with it. But does it really work for you?

It didn't for me. I had bought these local charcoal strips from Alfa. All they did was first create a terrible urge to itch my nose while they were on, and then while they seemed to remove those pesky black & white heads, they never really eliminated them.

Paula Begoun of Original Beauty Bible says:

What SPF is right for you?

In my last post on sunscreens, I received quite a few queries on what is the best SPF. There were some who were of the opinion that no higher than 20 is needed, whereas some thought differently.

So I turned to the experts at Lakme and asked them to shed a bit of light on their research on Indian skintones & SPF. This is what they had to say:
